Friday Fives
1. Many musicians say that a band is only as good as it's drummer. Who is your favorite drummer and why?
Jimmy Chamberlain of the Smashing Pumpkins. That being said, I mostly disagree with that blanket statement. I mean, a really good drummer can absolutely kick a band into overdrive (think Tool)... but there are 4 or 5 in rock who I find even remotely compelling.
As for why: Jimmy was able to make the Pumpkins so insanely good it can't be charted. I mean, some will tell you to listen to Geek USA (which is some sick drumming). However, pretty much anything off Gish or Siamese Dream will blow your mind... and your speaker cones.
2. Name as many drummers as you can that also sang lead vocals for there band.
Well, here are the big ones: Levon Helm, for the Band. Phil Collins, for Genesis, and Don Henley, for the Eagles
3. Name some drummers that were also a principal song writer for there band.
same as above. It is rare, because most drummers are brain friend drop outs and idiots. A rock drummer is the one musician in society that I can pick out of a crowd with alarming accuracy.
4. What are the three most important qualities a drummer can bring to a band?
a van, drugs, and some cute chicks. Chicks just love drummers for some reasons.
5. Neil Peart was not the original drummer for Rush. Who was? -
ooh, I know who you are talking about. The first drummer, he was on the track 'Working Man'. I could find it in 10 seconds using the internet... but that would be cheating. So, I am going to go with the odds and say Gordon somethingorother... I mean, they are Canadian and all.

Comments
Well, some of my answers:
1: Neil Peart. I'm a huge Rush fan since I was 12. And this year I finally saw them live! Never heard anyone better than him, although there is quite some competition in the music world. Terry Bozzio, Mike Portnoy, Virgil Donati, to name but a few.
2: Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger), Gil Moore (Triumph)
4: a,b, and c: they are the backbone of a band.
5: like many, I'd say, skip this. Neil Peart is and counts as THE Rush drummer ;)
My blog ain't interesting, but here's the url anyway: http://ladyofthesnow.blogdrive.com, to not remain anonymous.
